Altuve suffers hamstring injury in Astros 8-3 win

Team calling it a hamstring strain

HOUSTON – The Astros beat the Angels Monday night 8-3 in their Home opener for 2022 but late in the game one of their stars went down. Jose Altuve was trying to leg out a ground ball in the 8th inning when he came up limping as he approached the first-base bag.

Altuve then exited the game and the team is saying he suffered a left hamstring strain.

“You never want to get hurt playing. It’s something I take pride in and that’s staying on the field,” said Altuve after the game. “I had to come out of the game so it is what it is.”

Altuve told reporters after the game the injury occurred while he was running and it was not caused by stepping awkwardly on the first base bag.

“I think I stopped it a little bit when I felt it and didn’t make it worse. I’ll check with the trainers tomorrow and do what they tell me to do,” said Altuve.

Altuve dealt with a hamstring issue he said back in 2019.

“It wasn’t bad and hopefully this won’t be bad either and can play soon,” he said.
