New Texans wide receiver Demaryius Thomas gets straight to work after arriving in Houston

HOUSTON – The Houston Texans made a big move at the NFL trade deadline Tuesday, trading for wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

With Will Fuller V's ACL injury last week, the Texans were reportedly looking at internal candidates to offset his loss. But the Texans found a willing trade partner in Denver.

Thomas landed at George Bush Intercontinental Airport Tuesday night and will be getting straight to business on Wednesday.

The wide receiver will undergo a physical, which he must pass, then have a press conference before heading to his first practice Wednesday afternoon.

Thomas is excited and ready to start playing.

“In the off season, me and Deshaun Watson hung out together,” Thomas said. “You know, I watched ‘DeHops’ (DeAndre Hopkins) games of course. Me and Kareem Jackson, I call him Koko, you know, we kind of grew up together, so I know some of the guys. I’m excited and I look forward to it.”
Thomas’ new teammates are also looking forward to the new addition.

“I think it was awesome,” DeAndre Hopkins said about the trade. “I think Demariyus brings a lot of skill to this team. A lot of experience in the NFL. He’s a great guy off the field. I’ve trained with him before, so I think it’s a good move."

Safety for the Texans, Tyrann Mathieu said, “Anytime you can add a player with that pedigree, a guy who’s played in big games, I think it said that they want to win. So obviously that speaks volumes within our locker room … I think it’s important to continue to try to add pieces to help your team win.”

The team sent a 2019 fourth-round pick to the Broncos and swapped 2019 seventh-round picks.

Thomas has played his entire nine-year career with the Broncos. This season, he had 36 catches for 402 yards and three TDs in eight games.

He had five consecutive years of 1,000-plus yards receiving between 2012 and 2016, and just missed that milestone last season with 949 yards. He had a career-high 14 TD catches in 2013.

Thomas was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2012 through 2014, and 2016. He won a Super Bowl with Denver for the 2015 season.

It won't take long for Thomas to get a chance to go up against his former teammates. The Texans will be in Denver Sunday afternoon to take on the Broncos.
