Houston police chief proposes friendly bet to NYC chief if Astros win

HOUSTON – Houston police Chief Art Acevedo did some friendly prodding Thursday of his counterpart in New York City as the Astros prepare to take on the New York Yankees in the American League championship series starting Friday.

Acevedo tweeted at New York City police Commissioner James O’Neill, congratulating the Yankees on their division win.

“You would look great in an @astros jersey when they beat New York and viceversa (sic),” Acevedo said in the tweet. “Let me know.”

Acevedo said in another tweet that he’s hoping for an Astros win because it might be hard to find Yankees gear in Houston.

The chief kept the trash-talking going by tweeting to O’Neill a picture of a Sports Illustrated cover from June 2014, featuring Astros outfielder George Springer and a headline that read “Your 2017 World Series Champs.”

“Don’t let @SInow prognostication scare,” Acevedo said.

It didn’t appear that O’Neill had accepted the wager yet.
