Jordan Spieth, world's No. 6 player, misses cut at Shell Houston Open

HOUSTON – In a surprise twist of events, the world's sixth-ranked player has failed to make the cut at the Shell Houston Open.

Jordan Spieth, who was born in Dallas, missed the cut after shooting +2 in the first two rounds at the Golf Club of Houston near Humble.

Spieth was in seventh place in the FedEx Rankings entering the tournament.

This is his first missed cut of the season and the 18th missed cut of his career.

Sung Kang sits atop the leader board at -16 with round of -7 and -9 on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Rickie Fowler was sitting in first place after the first round after shooting -8.
