HOUSTON – With NFL free agency set to begin, the Houston Texans have gotten a head start on the festivities.

Sources with knowledge of the agreements confirmed with KPRC Channel 2 Sports Tuesday night that new contract deals are in place with punter Shane Lechler and kicker Nick Novak.

Both had outstanding seasons for the Texans.

Novak was consistent all season, and had a streak of 16 consecutive makes as he became one of the NFL’s top-rated kickers.

Meanwhile Lechler wrapped up his 17th season in the league turning in one of his best seasons as a pro.

The Texans have big decisions to make in the coming weeks.

Topping the list now is finding a way to keep cornerback A.J. Bouye.

Bouye is a top-rated free agent at his position who could command $12 million per season.

The interest around the league will be significant and Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has made it clear they want Bouye back.
