More dogs reported sick over jerky treats

HOUSTON – The number of dogs reported sick from dog jerky treats has increased.

In March, 600 dogs were sick. That number has since gone up to 1,000 dogs.

There is more pressure on the the Food & Drug Administration to solve the problem.

The three brands of dog treats cited for the illnesses were Waggin' Train, Canyon Creek Ranch and Milo's Kitchen Home-style dog treats.

FDA officials said the companies are free to recall the treats at any time, but regulations do not allow for products to be removed based on complaints alone.

The agency sent inspectors earlier this year to Chinese plants that make the jerky treats, but the results of those reviews are not available yet.
