SOUTH HOUSTON, Texas – A witness says a Friday police involved shooting at a funeral home was all over a can of beer.

The witness told KPRC Local 2 that the shooting victim, Jerome Barrera, Jr., 25, wanted to place a beer can inside the casket.

The family said no and the witness said things quickly got out of hand.

The shooting happened at South Houston Funeral Home in the 1500 block of South Highway 3 about 4:15 p.m. Friday.

South Houston police said when officers confronted Barrera, he turned around and pointed a gun in the air.

The Barrera was shot and wounded in the chest. He was treated at the scene before he was taken to Herman Memorial Southeast Hospital.
