You gotta see this: Blue fireball lights up Texas sky

HOUSTON – A ball of bright light that streaked across the sky Thursday night startled some in the Austin area.

Videos KXAN-TV, the NBC affiliate in Austin, shared with KPRC2 showed a bluish-green ball of fire fly across the sky and light up the ground below. Some people even reported a booming sound when they noticed it.

Some people in the Houston area even reported seeing the bright flash about 9:25 p.m., according to the Texas Storm Chasers Facebook page.

Most believe it was a meteor. That is when a space rock burns up and breaks apart as it enters the earth’s atmosphere.

The Leonid meteor shower is expected to peak this weekend, according to CNN.
