Police: Trio beats armored truck guard during West University Place robbery

WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, Texas – Three men beat an armored truck guard Tuesday during a robbery outside a West University Place bank, police said.

The robbery was reported at 8:55 a.m. outside of a Bank of America near the intersection of Stella Link Road and Bellaire Boulevard.

According to police, three robbers held up the armored truck and hit the guard over the head during the robbery. They said the group then fled the scene.

“I was sitting at the office here and I heard a really funny sounding horn and I looked up and initially I thought some guy’s car was getting stolen because he runs around the corner of the building and run across the street up here by the building and runs into my office and says the bank is getting robbed,” said Bradley Jackson, who works across the street at a medical supply company.

Police said the robbers were last seen heading west on Bellaire Boulevard toward the West Loop.

The Bank of America remained closed for the rest of the day. Many people who walked up to the locked doors were surprised to hear what happened Tuesday morning.

“That’s crazy especially in this area it’s a really good area I didn’t think anything bad really happened here so I was surprised,” said Rafael Paredes, who was trying to go inside the bank.
