Gun-wielding man killed by La Porte officers, police say

LA PORTE, Texas – A suicidal man on Tuesday who pointed a gun at police in La Porte was shot and killed by officers, officials said.

The shooting happened about 5:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of Glenview Drive.

According to La Porte police, officers responded to reports of gunshots and a man armed with a rifle and dressed in a camouflage shirt walking up and down the street.

Police said officers arrived at the man’s house, where his wife told them that her husband was suicidal. They said the man came out of the house armed with an assault-style rifle and confronted officers. They said officers repeatedly told the man to drop the gun. They said the man pointed the gun at officers, who shot and killed him.

The man’s identity was not immediately released.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation.
