Super Bowl committee reveals 'WOW' Factor for Super Bowl Live

HOUSTON – The Houston Super Bowl Host Committee revealed Wednesday the premiere attraction for Super Bowl LIVE, the 10-day, free-to-the-public, fan festival held during Super Bowl LI week.

The "WOW" Factor experience will be held inside Super Bowl LIVE at Discovery Green Park in downtown.

The Host Committee partnered with NASA and space industry leaders to engage the public in the incredible journey of human space travel to Mars and beyond. NASA was the first partner when the Super Bowl announcement was revealed in 2013.

The fan fest will have a "Future Flight" theme, which the host committee described as a destination, an experience and a ride.

“The Host Committee has declared Super Bowl LI as the Super Bowl of the future in the City of the Future,” said Sallie Sargent, president and CEO of the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee. “Nothing says future more than deep space travel. The Host Committee is thrilled to partner with NASA and the leading space industry companies to create the Future Flight Experience for people to enjoy during Super Bowl LIVE.”

The north corner of Discovery Green will be home to future flight, a one-of-a-kind experience giving visitors an exclusive peek at NASA programs.

The main attraction is sure to be a ride at Discovery Green which will feature the first merging of virtual reality with a ride. Riders will wear a VR headset during the ride.

The one-of-a-kind VR ride with a 90-foot drop shares a dynamic journey into deep space.

On the way up, riders will see what it takes to get from earth to Mars, and on the way down, riders will go from Mars to NRG Stadium in time to catch the game.

“The space industry is one of Houston’s vital sectors, featuring some of the country’s brightest professionals in science and engineering,” said Dr. Ellen Ochoa, director of the NASA Johnson Space Center. “This ‘WOW’ Factor allows the public to experience a journey through space that is normally only experienced by select individuals. We are excited to work alongside the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee and our industry partners to showcase some of the best that Houston has to offer.”

Future Flight will be open to the public from Jan. 28, 2017 through Feb. 5, 2017. It will be located at Super Bowl LIVE, the 10-day fan festival held the week of Super Bowl LI. The free event will be held in and around Discovery Green in downtown Houston, and will feature music, games and attractions.
