Spring Forest Middle School celebrates Veterans Day in a big way

HOUSTON – Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students at Spring Forest Middle School planned a program to honor service men and women, and their families during their 15th Annual Veterans Day Celebration. Parents, teachers and students served breakfast to 100 veterans before their patriotic assembly commenced.

"It's a humbling experience," Col. Bernard McCabe said, who spent 30 years serving our country. "To see the kids giving back in such a big way is great to see."

Veterans got a chance to reminisce and mingle before taking part in the assembly. The middle school band and orchestra played patriotic songs, and students read speeches outlining the essence of Veterans Day.

The school raised $7,300 for Patriot Paws, an organization dedicated to training service dogs for wounded warriors.
