BAYTOWN, Texas – People who live in sections of Harris County that were recently annexed by Baytown may be getting the wrong ballot at the poll, officials announced Thursday.
Natasha Barrett, a spokeswoman for Baytown city government, said the issue stems from city boundary maps that were redrawn when the annexation happened. Barrett said 294 people live in those areas.
Barret said the annexations were completed in November, and the new maps were submitted by the city clerk to the county's tax office on time. The tax office maps are used by the county clerk, who runs elections, to determine ballot distribution.
Baytown residents should receive a ballot with the city’s mayoral race and 27 propositions, Barrett said. If those races aren’t present, voters should check with on-site election officials to ensure they receive the correct ballot.
Officials said voters should check their sample ballot at HarrisVotes.org before they go to the polls to ensure those city races are included.
Barrett said Harris County officials have assured the city that they are working to correct the issue as quickly as possible.
Voters who live in the newly annexed areas and have already cast their ballot are not allowed to vote again, Barrett said.
