Pest control company helps Houston woman get rid of home's massive bee infestation

HOUSTON – A massive bee infestation is bad news for homeowner Brenda Whitfield.

“I’m very worried,” Whitfield said.

But for Claude Griffin of Gotcha Pest Control, it’s like hitting the jackpot.

“Bingo, bingo. That’s what I’m talking about,” Griffin said.

Whitfield noticed the bees shortly after she moved into her Southwest Houston home near McHard Road and Post Oak.

Nearly two years later, she is finally having them removed.

All this time, she’s been shopping around and getting quotes, all of which she could not afford.

“Some of them are getting in the house, around my windows,” Whitfield said.

So she called Councilman Larry Green’s office for help and they put her in touch with Gotcha Pest Control, who’s doing the work free of charge.

Nothing could have prepared Griffin for what he discovered underneath the hardy plank façade on the side of the house.

“I've got over 100 pounds in this wall here I don't know far it goes back, we need to bring the hoe or a shovel,” Griffin said.

And there was a lot more where that came from.

“Good Lord, if the day plays out right there could be a million bees in this house for all we know,” Griffin said.

In all, Griffin removed seven hives or a half million bees and just under 350 pounds of honey!

“That’s the prize for the day,” Griffin said.

It’s all in a day’s work.

“I’m glad to get this problem resolved,” Whitfield said.
