Father of 4-year-old shot several times at SW Houston apartments, police say

HOUSTON – Police are investigating the shooting of a father Monday morning in southwest Houston.

Chauney R.Williams, 28, was shot around 11:30 a.m. at an apartment complex at 10402 Sandpiper Drive, between Dumfries Drive and Willowbend Boulevard. The complex is south of South Braeswood Boulevard and east of Fondren Road.

Investigators said Williams is the father of a 4-year-old boy and was shot several times after a man and woman opened the door to his apartment and opened fire.

Sky 2 aerials showed emergency personnel wheeling the man out on a stretcher. He was taken to the hospital.

"My grandson didn't see anything. He can't tell me anything. He just said, 'My daddy got shot. The bad guy did it,'" said Gwendolyn Williams, the victim's mother.

Investigators found at least four shell casings.

Police described the man believed to be connected to the shooting as as a tall black man, 25 to 35 years old, with a slim build. He fled the scene, possibly in a silver Acura, police said. There was no further information about the woman.

"I thank God it wasn't worse than it was. My grandson could have been caught in the crossfire. Whoever did this, God is watching," Gwendolyn Williams said. "You can run but you can't hide."

The victim is expected to survive his injuries.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the HPD Major Assaults Unit at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
