New Hair Transplant System Helps Growth

HOUSTON - A recent innovation in hair restoration is giving some patients what they call a major advantage to the traditional hair transplant.

Dan Romitelli said he was tired of wearing a baseball cap so he invested in hair restoration with the Neograft Automated Hair Restoration System.

"I am thrilled and I am having more done. It was easy to tolerate," said Romitelli. The patient said he was so thrilled with the results, he started working for the company.

Houston dermatologist, Dr. Rashid Rashid, said the procedure re-created Romitelli's hairline and you can't tell any of it is a transplant.

"In a traditional transplant, it is almost considered a surgical procedure. A lot of times, they are done in an operating room setting. It is a major cut on the back of your scalp, a major scar, lots of bleeding and a crazy amount of pain," said Rashid.

The Neograft system plucks the hairs one by one and then puts the hairs where the patient needs to have hair replacement.

"Anybody that has hair back here and wants it up here, we can do it," said Rashid.

Patients can return to work the next day with little to no swelling and there is said to be no scarring.

"I think the right candidates, which is most of them, would do great with this, but it is really important to be evaluated by a doctor first. It is not as simple as come in and get your procedure and you are gone. Patients must also do topical treatments such as Rogaine and most patients don't see results for a year after the hair restoration," said Rashid.
