MANVEL, Texas – The City of Manvel has announced the retirement of Public Safety Director and Chief of Police Keith Traylor after 13 years of service to the city and nearly 50 years of combined law enforcement experience.
Traylor joined the Manvel Police Department in 2013, when the department had fewer than 10 employees. Under his leadership, the department grew to more than 50 personnel by 2026, a transformation that mirrored the city’s own rapid growth.

During his tenure, Traylor expanded community outreach through programs including the Citizen Police Academy and the Teen Citizen Police Academy, and created a Community Relations Officer position to strengthen ties between the department and the residents it serves. He also played a key role in the design and construction of the city’s new criminal justice facility, which has since been named in his honor.
Mayor Dan Davis praised Traylor’s lasting impact on both the department and the community.
“Chief Traylor has dedicated years of his life to serving the people of Manvel, and we are grateful for the commitment and leadership he has provided throughout his career,” Davis said. “His service has made a lasting impact on our organization and our community, and we wish him and his family all the best as he begins this next chapter.”
City Manager Dan Johnson also recognized Traylor’s dedication to public service.
“Serving in public safety requires tremendous dedication, sacrifice, and responsibility,” Johnson said. “Chief Traylor has answered that call here in Manvel. We thank him for his contributions to the City and for the work he has done to help position the Manvel Police Department for continued success.”
Assistant Chief Rick Alvarado will serve as Interim Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police while the city conducts its search for Traylor’s successor.
The City of Manvel extended its sincere appreciation to Traylor for his 13 years of service, saying his contributions will remain part of the department’s legacy for years to come.
Manvel Mayor, Dan Davis, shared the following statement with KPRC 2 News:
“Chief Traylor has been talking about retirement for a few years, and one of the major milestones he wanted to reach before retiring was the successful completion of our new police station, which was completed last year. Chief Traylor has done a great job building a capable and knowledgeable team within the Manvel Police Department, and I am confident in the team he has put in place. We wish Chief Traylor nothing but the best in his retirement and sincerely appreciate his many years of dedicated service to the City of Manvel and our community.”
