2 Helps You: Nearly $11,000 spent on furniture with biggest piece not fitting as promised to local 76-year-old

For months she tried to get a solution but was met with no assistance until 2 Helps You came knocking and now La-Z-Boy is stepping up with a replacement

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 76-year-old West Harris County woman says she was left frustrated after a nearly $11,000 furniture purchase from La-Z-Boy did not fit in her living room the way she was told it would.

Bobbie Leas purchased the furniture from the La-Z-Boy location off the Katy Freeway in February. One of the main pieces was a “wallaway” couch — a recliner-style sofa designed to sit close to a wall.

The couch was not available to see in the showroom, so Leas says she relied on dimensions provided before placing the order.

“They didn’t have this couch in the store unfortunately, so we had to order it out of the picture,” Leas said.

But problems began when the furniture arrived.

“They dropped it out of the truck,” Leas said.

Once the couch was in her home, Leas says she quickly realized it wasn’t fitting the way she had expected.

“None of it fits the way they told me it was going to fit,” she said.

Leas contacted the store and customer service multiple times. She says she was eventually told to simply move the couch farther away from the wall, “I said that’s not the point. The point is it was sold as a wallaway and it’s not a wallaway.”

Moving the couch farther into the room, she said, created another problem.

“Then I don’t have a living room,” Leas said. “I can’t put a table in front of it.”

Leas says she made repeated attempts to get the issue resolved, contacting both the store and customer service roughly 14 times.

“I would be so satisfied if they would just take the couch back and let me take a different couch,” Leas said. “I would be 100% happy.”

After the situation was brought to the attention of La-Z-Boy’s corporate escalation team and its Texas customer service manager, the company reviewed the concerns raised about the purchase.

Within hours, La-Z-Boy agreed to make the situation right and work toward a resolution with Leas.

Leas later confirmed that she was happy with the resolution.

The quick response brought an end to a months-long frustration for Leas, who said she simply wanted the furniture she purchased to work as promised.
