HOUSTON – Houston criminal defense attorney Michael Stuart Driver has been charged with murder for a June shooting of a man prosecutors identified as Jesse Reyes, 45.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to a shooting on June 27 and were flagged down by Driver, who identified himself as the shooter.

Investigators said Driver told officers he had been involved in a physical altercation before pulling out a gun and firing at Reyes, which records show was his roommate and bodyguard.
According to a law enforcement source to KPRC 2 Bryce Newberry, Driver told investigators, Reyes was his best friend of about two years.
Documents state Driver claims self-defense for the shooting.
Court records identify Driver as the principal attorney of Driver Law Firm, a Houston practice he has operated for seven years. On the firm’s website, Driver describes himself as a seasoned Texas trial attorney known for his courtroom advocacy, strategic litigation skills, and representing clients in high-stakes cases across the state.
Driver is also related to Harris County District Attorney Grand Jury Division Chief Stephen Driver. In addition, he is a Republican candidate running as judge of Harris County’s 208th District Court.
KPRC 2 News has reached out to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for comment regarding the case and Driver’s relationship to a member of the office but has not yet received a response.
