HOUSTON – June 19, 2026, marks 161 years since freedom was announced for African Americans enslaved in Texas in 1865.

June 19 has since been observed as a federal holiday known as Juneteenth and is often spent celebrating freedom and the historical significance of the date.

Closed or Adjusted Hours

Government Offices

  • All federal and city offices will be closed for the holiday.

Houston Public Library

METRO

  • Services operating on a normal weekday schedule:
    • Local Bus
    • Park & Ride Bus
    • METRORail
    • METRO curb2curb
    • Community Connector
    • HOV/HOT Lanes
  • Services with adjusted schedules:
    • METROLift reservations and customer service will be closed, but Friday subscription trips will not be affected.
    • METRO RideStore locations and METRO Lost & Found will be closed.
    • The METRO Customer Service Call Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
