Houston hosts its first FIFA World Cup game: Germany vs. Curaçao

HOUSTON – Houston is taking another step onto soccer’s biggest stage Sunday, as the city hosts its first game of the FIFA World Cup. Germany, a 4-time World Cup champion, takes on Curaçao, who is making their World Cup debut. Matchup starts at 12 p.m. CT at Houston Stadium.

The game brings an international spotlight to Houston, as city leaders have been planning year-round to transform Houston with the venue infrastructure, security footprint and transit planning required for a tournament of this scale. Beyond the action on the field, the match is expected to draw traveling supporters and local fans alike, boosting activity for nearby hotels, bars and restaurants.
