Lionel Messi links up with Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed during International Friendly in College Station

Aggies host match between Argentina, Honduras at Kyle Field

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – An international football star and an American football star crossed paths in Aggieland over the weekend.

On Saturday, Argentina and Honduras faced off in an international friendly as some of the world’s top soccer players continue preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match took place at Kyle Field on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station. Argentina handled business with a 2-0 victory.

After the match, Lionel Messi posed for a photo with Texas A&M quarterback Marcel Reed.

The Texas A&M football account posted an image of the pair, with Reed holding an Aggie football jersey signed by Messi. The post was captioned, “Elite company.”

Messi did not take the field during the friendly as he continues to recover from a mild left hamstring strain, according to a report from the Associated Press. He is one of the most decorated players in football history and is looking to help Argentina defend its 2022 World Cup title.

Argentina’s first formal World Cup match is scheduled for June 16, when the defending champions open their tournament against Algeria at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Several other current and former Aggies also made appearances during the friendly, including Von Miller, Rueben Owens and Isaiah Horton.
