HOUSTON – Thousands of customers are without electricity across the Houston area as thunderstorms move through Southeast Texas, according to the latest data from Entergy and CenterPoint.

As of 5 a.m. on Wednesday, more than 23,000 CenterPoint Energy customers are without power.
CenterPoint said it has restored 56,000 customers since weather impacts started around 1 a.m. The company said as of 5 a.m., 99% of its electric customers have power.
“Our Emergency Operations Center is activated and our enhanced workforce of more than 2,000 frontline personnel and contractors will continue working to restore power to all impacted customers,” CenterPoint says.
Restoration & Response Actions (as of 5 a.m.)
The scope of CenterPoint’s storm response and restoration includes the following actions:
- Approximately 2,000 CenterPoint frontline workers and contractors have restored approximately 56,000 customers since the storms arrived at 1 a.m. Wednesday morning.
- CenterPoint crews are actively working to restore power to the remaining approximately 23,000 customers who are currently without service and will continue restoring customers throughout the day. Currently, more than 99% of all CenterPoint electric customers have power.
- CenterPoint is continuing to communicate proactively with customers, providing safety and preparedness information directly with customers via email, phone and text, across social media platforms and other channels.
- Since 1 a.m. Wednesday morning more than 48,000 Power Alert Service® messages have been shared directly with customers.
- Across our network of 150 weather stations, we recorded the following with Wednesday’s severe thunderstorms:
- Isolated strong wind gusts of up to 48 mph
- Widespread winds up to 38mph
- Isolated rainfall totals of up to 2.65 inches
- Approximately 6,000 lightning strikes between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m. across Houston were recorded via a third-party (Vaisala)
