Fired Houston police officer appeals termination after viral racist video, HPOU president says

HOUSTON – Former Houston police officer Ashley Gonzalez has appealed her termination from the Houston Police Department following a viral video that appeared to show her using racist slurs and making offensive remarks.

Houston Police Officers’ Union President Doug Griffith confirmed the appeal to KPRC 2 News.

Gonzalez was fired after the video circulated on social media.

In the video, a woman sitting in a vehicle can be heard using racial slurs and making comments targeting Black people, as well as remarks referencing slavery, racial discrimination, and stereotypes.

Houston police later identified Gonzalez as the woman in the video.

Before her termination, Gonzalez had been relieved of duty pending a meeting with HPD Chief J. Noe Diaz.

At last check, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office said it is reviewing every pending and past case involving Gonzalez to determine whether her conduct could impact criminal prosecutions or her credibility as a witness.
