Several families are waking up without a home after a fire tore through an apartment complex overnight in southwest Houston.
According to the Houston Fire Department, crews were called to an apartment complex on Bellerive Drive just before 9 p.m. Monday.
When firefighters arrived, flames were already spreading across three floors.
Despite the intensity of the fire, officials say everyone inside the six affected units was able to get out safely on their own.
No injuries were reported.
Video sent in by a viewer shows flames shooting from multiple apartments as crews worked to contain the fire.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but not before it caused significant damage.
In total, six units were impacted, leaving several families displaced.
Investigators with the Houston Fire Department Arson Division believe the fire may have started from food left unattended on a stove. However, the official cause remains under investigation.
In the meantime, the American Red Cross is assisting those affected, helping families find temporary housing and support.
