A TEA spokesperson said the educator is now under review by the agency’s Educator Investigations Division. An investigatory flag has also been placed on the teacher’s certification, along with a flag in the state’s Do Not Hire Registry.

The update comes after authorities said the incident at Splendora High School was a hoax.

According to investigators, the teacher, identified as 53-year-old Nicole Truelove, is accused of injuring herself with a sharp object and falsely claiming a student attacked her, triggering a campus lockdown and a large law enforcement response.

Officials said the panic alarm was activated Thursday morning, prompting dozens of officers to respond and the school to go into lockdown before later transitioning to a secure hold.

Detectives later determined no student was involved and that the injuries were self-inflicted.

Truelove is now facing charges of filing a false report and tampering with evidence in connection with the incident.

The investigation by TEA could impact her ability to remain in the classroom, depending on the outcome.
