3 suspects in custody after robbery spree leads to police pursuit along Houston highway

Suspects accused of robbing Kroger and Walmart locations before attempted carjacking and arrest

HOUSTON – A police pursuit that began after a reported bank robbery in northwest Houston ended in a crash near Almeda Road and Wichita Street late Monday morning, with three suspects now in custody and multiple scenes under investigation.

According to a police source, the incident began around 11:30 a.m. when the three men allegedly robbed a bank located inside a Kroger grocery store on Ella Boulevard.

The suspects then traveled to a Walmart near Highway 290 at Tidwell Road and Hollister Road, where a second robbery was reported.

Houston police officers were able to identify the suspect vehicle—a black Chrysler 300—and initiated a pursuit following the Walmart incident.

The chase continued onto Highway 59 before coming to an end near Almeda Road and Wichita Street, where the Crysler slammed into a tree.

After the crash, authorities said he suspects took off on foot and attempted to carjack a woman near the intersection of Wichita Street and Southmore Boulevard. The attempt was unsuccessful.

The three suspects were taken into custody at the scene. One suspect reportedly locked himself in a public bathroom before being found by police.

A short time after the arrest, our Sky2 Chopper captured one of the detained suspects being moved from an HPD SUV onto a stretcher, before being led to an ambulance.

The extent of the suspect’s possible injuries is not clear, but HPD said it resulted from the collision.

At this time, officials have not confirmed whether any shots were fired during the incidents.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events.
