United Airlines flight bound for Houston makes emergency landing after engine failure

The flight from Knoxville diverted to Jackson, MS, after one engine shut down and passengers deplaned safely, the airline said.

HOUSTON – A United Express flight bound for Houston made an emergency landing in Mississippi on Monday after one of its engines shut down, according to the airline.

CommuteAir flight 4302, operating as United Express, was traveling from Knoxville, Tennessee, to George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston when the issue occurred, a company spokesperson said.

The aircraft diverted to Jackson, Mississippi, and landed safely.

The plane taxied to the gate under its own power, and passengers deplaned normally, according to a statement from CommuteAir.

“CommuteAir flight 4302, operating as United Express from Knoxville to Houston today, safely diverted to Jackson, MS to address an engine issue. The aircraft taxied to the gate under its own power, where passengers deplaned normally. We are arranging for a different aircraft to continue the flight to Houston and apologize for this inconvenience.”

The airline confirmed one engine shut down during the flight. There was no confirmation of a fire.

CommuteAir said it is arranging another aircraft to take passengers to Houston and apologized for the disruption.

Flight tracking data shows the aircraft diverted mid-flight before landing in Jackson.
