Authorities say deputies arriving at the scene discovered the child in a nearby pool, unresponsive.

Despite efforts at the scene, the child was pronounced dead. Officials have not released the child’s identity at this time.

Preliminary information indicates the child, believed to be around 5 years old, may have left their residence unattended before the incident occurred. It remains unclear how long the child had been in the water or how access to the pool was gained.

Crime Scene Investigators and detectives are continuing to process the scene and gather more details about the circumstances leading up to the drowning.

Sheriff Gonzalez said the investigation is ongoing.
