1 dead, 2 seriously injured after shooting at basketball court in Galena Park

GALENA PARK, Texas – One man is dead, and two others are in critical condition after a shooting broke out at a basketball court in Galena Park Sunday night.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded and assisted Galena Park police with the shooting reported around 9:45 p.m. on Keene Street and 14th Street.

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, a group of men was gathered at the basketball court playing basketball when a possible fight broke out between two groups, and multiple shots were fired.

Details surrounding what exactly caused the shooting are still being investigated, according to Gonzalez, who also added he doesn’t know if it was a shootout between the two groups or one shooter.

One person was found shot to death at the park, and two others attempted to run away but were found collapsed a short distance away.

Gonzalez said those two men were transported to the hospital in critical condition.

One person was possibly detained at the scene, but Gonzalez said investigators are working to determine if the person detained was a bystander, witness or suspect.
