The cold case, known as the “Lovers’ Lane Murders,” remained unsolved for nearly 36 years.

“One of Houston’s most haunting and infamous cold cases has weighed on the Henry and Atkinson families, as well as our community for more than three decades,” District Attorney Sean Teare said. “[Investigators] have worked hundreds of leads, facing dead ends and plenty of frustration. But they never gave up on Cheryl and Andy.”

Details of cold case

On August 23, 1990, a security guard was conducting a routine patrol when he saw a vehicle parked in a cul-de-sac. When the vehicle had not moved over a period of time, the security guard approached it and found an unresponsive woman. Houston police officers responded and also foud an unresponsive man.

Both victims, identified as Henry and Atkinson, had suffered injuries to their necks and were pronounced dead.

Continuous investigation led to the identification of Parrott as the suspect in March. Detectives consulted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, and charges were accepted.

Parrott is awaiting extradition to the Harris County Jail.

HCDAO, HPD, and FBI Houston are working to coordinate a joint press conference to answer more questions surrounding this cold case.
