Man pinned under Hermann Park train rescued, hospitalized with serious injuries

HOUSTON – A man was seriously injured after he was struck by a train at Hermann Park Monday, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the incident happened when the small park train was rounding a corner inside the park. The driver reportedly saw a man who had been sitting on the tracks stand up.

According to Rustin Rawlings with the Houston Police Department, the train operator attempted to stop but was unable to do so in time, and the train rolled over the man’s legs.

The Houston Fire Department responded to the scene and used rescue equipment to lift the train off the man.

Officials said the man suffered significant injuries to both legs and was transported to a hospital for treatment.

No additional information about the man’s condition or what led him to be on the tracks has been released. Police did not immediately say whether the incident remains under investigation.
