HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2026. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Sharpstown High School senior Jessica Cantu is the ninth KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner from the class of 2026. Sharpstown High School is part of the Houston Independent School District.
Cantu is academically ranked near the top of her graduating class, ranked sixth out of more than 300 students. She is president of her senior class and has fundraised more than $7,500 toward senior class activities. She is also documenting senior class activities for her school’s yearbook team.
The scholar-athlete shines on the volleyball court, where she is team captain. Cantu also plays varsity softball and has competed in tennis.
Crediting her parents’ hard work over the years for inspiring her, Cantu tells KPRC 2, “When I began high school, I wanted to push and challenge myself. I joined AP and On-Ramp classes, extracurriculars, and became senior class president. These activities allowed me to learn how to self-advocate, become a leader and become accountable with life. I wanted my parents to see that their sacrifices were not wasted.”
Cantu plans to study psychology and hopes to attend Texas A&M University in the fall. Congratulations, Jessica!
