The Harris County Pct. 5 Constable’s Office says the incident happened around 2 p.m. near Memorial Parkway Elementary School on Park Tree Lane.
The constable’s office said the man stood on a corner near the school and fired two shots in the air before running away.
Due to the proximity of the incident, the school was placed on “secure mode” as a precaution. Katy ISD officials tell us secure mode has officially been lifted as of 4:25 p.m.
The constable’s office says they know the identity of the man and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Katy ISD released the following statement:
Memorial Parkway Elementary continues to be on Secure due to law enforcement in the area, unrelated to the campus. Out of an abundance of caution, Katy ISD Police have determined to alter dismissal procedures.
Parents/guardians are required to pick up their student(s) in-person through the reunification process in the car rider line at the front of the building. Parents/guardians must bring a valid government-issued photo ID.
Students will not be permitted to bike, walk or ride the bus today. Students who are not able to be picked up during dismissal times, will be held and supervised in the school until a parent/guardian can pick them up.
All after-school activities have been cancelled including tutoring.
We ask parents/guardians to please be patient as we initiate this process of reuniting students with their families.
