HOUSTON – After a unanimous 9–0 vote by the Houston Independent School District Board of Managers, HISD is moving forward with a plan to close or consolidate 12 campuses by the end of the 2025–26 school year.

The decision, made after hours of public comment, includes the closure of eight schools and the consolidation or co-location of four others.

Parents have expressed concerns about transportation safety, academic quality at receiving campuses, and the emotional impact of moving students from neighborhood schools. HISD says it will continue engaging families throughout the transition.

Superintendent Mike Miles emphasized that reallocating resources from aging facilities to classrooms will allow the district to focus on student opportunities and instructional quality.

HISD officials will begin direct outreach to affected families this summer, including phone calls to discuss student placement, transportation options, and boundary changes. Teachers and staff at impacted campuses are expected to be notified of reassignment options by April 17.
