TSU students ‘Storm the Court’ as 45% of undergrads earn academic honors

TSU students ‘Storm the Court’ as 3,200 earn academic honors, marking major success surge

HOUSTON – Texas Southern University is celebrating academic excellence with a high-energy tradition that will send thousands of students onto the basketball court.

During halftime of Thursday’s game against Alcorn State University, more than 3,200 TSU undergraduates are set to “storm the court” – not for a last-second win, but to be recognized for their grades.

The students earned spots on the Honor Roll, Dean’s List or President’s List for the Fall 2025 semester. University leaders say that group represents about 45% of all undergraduate scholars at TSU, a marker of what they call a continuing upward trend in student success.

In the last two years, TSU reports a 13% increase in student persistence, the percentage of first-time freshmen who return for their second year. The school has also seen a 15–percentage point jump in student progression, measured by the share of first-time freshmen who successfully complete the 30 credit hours needed to be classified as sophomores in their second year.

Honorees will take the court wearing matching black shirts printed with “Excellence in Academic Achievement” and medals to mark the milestone.
