Armacost was arrested as part of a large-scale investigation into illegal gambling operations in the Hitchcock area. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office says search warrants were executed at 20 locations believed to be operating as unlawful gambling establishments, including convenience stores, game rooms, and a washateria.
Sheriff’s officials confirmed multiple arrests were made during the operation. The City of Hitchcock was also included in the investigation due to its role in permitting, inspections, and employee records tied to the businesses, according to the sheriff’s office.
Armacost did not respond to requests for comment regarding his arrest or his role as mayor.
KPRC 2 has reached out to the city and the sheriff’s office for more information and is waiting to hear back.
