‘World-class’: Texans President Mike Tomon discusses plans for new training facility in NW Harris County

“We really looked at this as a unique opportunity to give more access and connect more with our fan base.”

The Houston Texans have secured 83 acres in Harris County for a new world-class training facility and mixed-use development, with plans to open in 2029.

Team president Mike Tomon spoke to KPRC 2’s Randy McIlvoy to discuss the project, calling it a representation of years of work and a major step forward for the organization.

While approximately 21 acres will be dedicated to the team’s football operations, the remaining land will be developed into a year-round destination designed to serve the broader community.

“This puts us in a position where we can all be together in a world-class training facility and headquarters and focus on our goal,” Tomon said, emphasizing ownership’s commitment to building a championship-caliber organization.

The football operations portion will feature multiple outdoor practice fields, covered fields and a state-of-the-art indoor fieldhouse. The headquarters building is expected to span roughly 175,000 square feet, while the indoor fieldhouse will total about 150,000 square feet.

The design will account for Houston’s climate, incorporating indoor and connected spaces to enhance both player performance and fan experience.

Beyond football, the mixed-use district is envisioned as a 365-day destination with restaurants, retail, medical services and other amenities.

“We really looked at this as a unique opportunity to give more access and connect more with our fan base,” Tomon said.

The Texans have partnered with Howard Hughes Holdings Inc. to lead that portion of the development. The company is known locally for its work in The Woodlands.

Tomon said the project also strengthens the team’s ties to the region by remaining within Harris County and improving geographic access for fans.

He described 2029 as an achievable and well-planned target, allowing the organization to be “thoughtful along the way.”

Team officials say more details will be unveiled in the coming years, but the overarching message to fans is clear: the new facility is designed to elevate the franchise while creating a lasting community asset.
