KATY, Texas – Two toddler girls were pronounced dead Wednesday after they were found in a swimming pool at a Katy-area home, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Harris County Emergency Services District No. 48 and sheriff’s deputies responded around 11:30 a.m. to a home in the 21000 block of Creek Edge Court in reference to a water-related emergency involving two girls, ages 2 and 3.
Harris County ESD No. 40 personnel arrived and provided emergency medical care. Life Flight was called to assist with transportation to an area hospital while CPR efforts were underway.
Despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, both toddlers were pronounced dead.
Investigators said the girls lived at the home with their grandparents and mother.
Authorities said the grandmother found the children after returning home from grocery shopping. The mother and grandfather were reportedly inside the home asleep at the time and woke up when they heard the grandmother yelling for help.
The grandmother called 911, along with nearby neighbors who heard the commotion.
The incident remains under investigation.
