Missouri City – After KPRC 2’s reporting, workers who were hired to clean up the sulfuric acid spill in Channelview from December said they received some payments on Friday.

KPRC 2 News first brought you this story earlier this week.

More than a dozen workers hired by the company One Way Environmental Services told KPRC 2 News they were not paid for their work. Some who received a paycheck said their checks bounced.

Charles Boxie said he was owed at least $3,800, while others said they believe they are owed even more.

“I almost got evicted from my apartment,” said Boxie. “You got people struggling, like right now to this day, it’s hard to find a job.”

Tensions ran high Tuesday when workers hired to clean up a sulfuric acid spill in Channelview met with the owner of the company they say still hasn’t fully paid them for the job.

The owner of One Way, Cornell Dalton, said workers who were hired before January 9th did receive their first paycheck but admitted the check due on January 30th was delayed due to a banking issue.

After a few more days of delays, workers met up with Dalton on Friday to receive their paychecks.

“Thank you and Channel 2 KPRC 2 so much for pressuring Cornell into making some payments out,” a spouse of a worker told KPRC 2.
