HPD officer hospitalized after driver runs red light, crashes into unmarked police vehicle downtown

HOUSTON – Houston police are searching for the driver who ran a red light and crashed into an unmarked police vehicle Thursday night, sending an officer to the hospital.

Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to the crash on Pierce in Downtown Thursday afternoon.

Investigators said the driver of a white pickup truck ran a red light and crashed into the HPD officer’s vehicle before abandoning their truck and fleeing the scene.

The officer was hospitalized with minor injuries. The driver of the white pickup truck remains on the run.
