Harris County is challenging the EPA in federal court over the termination of the Solar for All Program, arguing that the agency’s actions prevent critical funding from reaching underserved Texas communities.
The Solar for All Program was designed to lower energy costs, expand clean energy access, and create jobs for underserved families across the United States. Harris County leads the Texas Solar for All Coalition and received $250 million in funding to provide solar power to low-income residents.
Harris County Attorney Jonathan Fombonne says the EPA overstepped its authority by trying to terminate the program, which Congress funded to benefit working families.
“We are going to keep pressing this case so these resources are delivered to the communities Congress intended to serve,” Fombonne said.
Last year, Harris County prevented the program from being dismantled during a separate legal challenge, but the county now wants a court ruling to fully restore funding.
