TxDOT moves forward with Alabama Street bridge demolition near downtown Houston

Activists against I-45 expansion project heading to Austin for Transportation Freedom Lobby Day

Drivers traveling near downtown Houston should plan ahead as TxDOT advances work tied to the I-45 North Houston Highway Improvement Project. Several daytime lane and ramp closures are scheduled as crews prepare to remove the Alabama Street bridge over I-69.

TxDOT says the Alabama Street bridge demolition is part of the larger reconstruction of I-45 through downtown Houston. The bridge is being removed to allow for new roadway alignment, improved drainage, and long-term changes connected to the I-45 expansion project.
