LIST: Houston-area roads, freeways shutdown due icy conditions during winter storm

HOUSTON – Although it’s not ideal for drivers to be on the roads during this winter storm in the Houston area, if you do find yourself out and about, Houston TranStar has identified several roadways to avoid due to reported ice.

• Houston-area roads to possibly avoid during a freeze, based on past ice crashes

Avoid the following roads because of ice accumulation:

• IH-45 Northbound at SH-242; All main lanes impacted beginning Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 3 a.m.
• SH-288 Managed Lane (Northbound) — Clear Creek/Harris–Brazoria County Line to Wheeler; All main lanes completely closed beginning Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 4 p.m.
• SH-288 Managed Lane (Southbound) — Wheeler to Clear Creek/Harris–Brazoria County Line; All main lanes completely closed beginning Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 4 p.m.
• SH-99 (Grand Parkway) Eastbound at Riley Fuzzel Road; All main lanes impacted beginning Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 3:10 a.m.
• SH-242 Westbound at IH-45; All main lanes impacted (time not specified)
