The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said it happened just after 7:30 p.m. in the 15400 block of Gettysburg Drive, not far from Louetta Road.

The initial information from authorities was that the child was riding a scooter, however, authorities at the scene clarified and said the child was on rollerblades.

The sheriff’s office says the collision happened in a break in a center median where vehicles can make U-turns. Authorities say the child and the vehicle entered the median at the same time and the child was hit and dragged underneath the vehicle before it stopped.

The driver stayed at the scene and is fully cooperating with the investigation. The sheriff’s office said the teenage driver had a valid license and a clean driving record.

The child was flown to Memorial Hermann Downtown. The sheriff’s office says he was conscious and alert at the time he was transported to the hospital.
