Steelers’ Mike Tomlin steps down after 19 seasons, marking ninth head coach opening of 2026 offseason

The day after the Pittsburgh Steelers went one-and-done for their sixth straight trip to the NFL Playoffs, the team decided that a head coaching change was finally necessary.

Tuesday, the team announced that head coach Mike Tomlin was stepping down after 19 seasons and a Super Bowl ring with the franchise.

The Texans beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh 30-6 in the finale of Wild Card weekend.

Tomlin was the ninth head coach to be relieved of his duties during or after the 2025 NFL season.
