Driver stalled in middle of Katy Freeway, hit and killed by tow truck

HOUSTON, Texas – A driver is dead Tuesday morning after police say he got into an accident with a wrecker driver on the Katy Freeway Monday night.

Houston police officers said they stumbled on the deadly crash around 11:50 p.m. and found the driver of the sedan unconscious and not breathing on the Katy Freeway near Studemont.

According to Houston police, the driver of a Toyota was stuck in the middle of the road when his vehicle broke down. The officer stated that the car was in a moving lane but stalled when the driver of the tow truck collided with it.

The Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Houston police said they are working to determine if the wrecker driver was speeding at the time of the incident.

The wrecker driver, who had a passenger in the vehicle with him, was not injured and was headed to another scene at the time of the crash.
