Chase erupts after north Houston traffic stop, minivan goes up in flames

HOUSTON – A traffic stop turned into a chase that ended with two people being arrested and a minivan blowing up in flames Friday morning.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a silver minivan at JFK Boulevard and the Beltway around 12 a.m. During the traffic stop, officers said the driver was detained, but then, the passenger got into the driver’s seat and fled the scene, leading deputies on a chase.

Deputies said the chase ended on Greens Road when the driver crashed into a dead-end sign, became airborne, and caught on fire. The driver was arrested at the scene and then transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Before the fiery crash, deputies said the driver of the vehicle slowed down and let multiple passengers out of the car.

The names of the two men arrested have not been released.
