Amazon is now sending refund checks to Prime members who qualify under a Federal Trade Commission settlement.

Some customers already received automatic refunds in November and December via PayPal or Venmo. If you didn’t get money then or didn’t accept the payment, Amazon is now mailing out checks.

So don’t worry if you missed the email—you can still get your refund.

The FTC’s historic $2.5 billion deceptive practices settlement covers Amazon members who were tricked into signing up or couldn’t cancel their Prime membership.

You may be eligible for an automatic refund from Amazon if you meet all three requirements:

  1. You are an Amazon Prime customer in the United States.
  2. You signed up for an Amazon Prime subscription through a “challenged enrollment flow” (the universal Prime decision page, shipping selection page, single page checkout, or the Prime Video enrollment flow) between June 23, 2019 and June 23, 2025.
  3. You used no more than three (3) Amazon Prime Benefits (including Prime Music or Prime Video products offered for free to Prime subscribers) in any 12-month period following Amazon Prime enrollment.

You could receive up to $51.

The website - subscriptionmembershipsettlement.com - allows customers to track the progress of their refund. You can also file a claim if you have not already received information from Amazon.

Warning about scammers targeting Amazon customers

As with other big settlements, the FTC warns about scammers.

The FTC is not contacting people about refunds in the Amazon matter. If you get a call from someone who claims to be from the FTC, it’s a scam. Report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

The FTC will never demand money, make threats, tell you to transfer money, or promise you a prize. And no one from Amazon will ever ask you for money to get a refund. Only scammers say they can get you special access or a guaranteed refund.
