As a result, many say they feel stressed, exhausted, and less creative and productive, often experiencing brain fog and emotional distance from their work.

A recent insight study by Lensa, a group of HR specialists, career counselors, and tech enthusiasts, analyzed working hours, annual salaries, commute times, and Google searches for the term “burnout” to determine which state is experiencing the highest levels of workplace stress.

Texas ranked No. 1.

According to the study, Texans appear to be the most burned out workers in the country, earning a burnout score of 7.3 out of 10 among 24 states analyzed.

Lensa attributes Texas’ ranking to long working hours, placing the state in the top five for the longest workweeks, with employees averaging about 40 hours per week. Texas also ranked second for the frequency of Google searches for the term “burnout,” signaling elevated stress levels across the workforce.

When examining the data more closely, many of the highest-ranking burnout states are in the South. Florida and Louisiana tied for second place, each earning a burnout score of 7.1.
